Dia de Lempira!

July 20th has always been a normal day for me (from what I can remember), however in Honduras, July 20th is a huge celebration! Yesterday, July 20, 2012, we celebrated the life of Indio Lempira, a Lencan chief in the 1500's who led the revolt against the Spaniards. Lempira is a hero in Honduras, so yesterday at school we had a huge fiesta to celebrate! Check out all the fun!

Deaf students dressed up to celebrate Indio Lempira

My class performed a drama telling
                                      the history of Indio Lempira

Felix (left) played Cristobal Colon, aka Christopher Colombus. Walter (right) played King Ferdinand.

The Spaniards (students in white) invaded Honduras and took control of the native Indios. Lempira, played by
Dennis (far right), defended and fought for the freedom
of his people.

The cast! Well, some of them :)

The Deaf students performed the "Hymn of Indio Lempira"
in sign. It was a lot of hard work,
I was really proud of them!

Me leading the song, yay awkward sign faces!
